The Right Technology for Long-Duration Flexibility
Batteries excel at short-duration balancing—minutes to a few hours. But the UK grid needs flexibility across longer timeframes: evening peaks, multi-day low wind periods, and seasonal demand variations.
Hydrogen-to-power fills this gap. It can store energy for days, weeks, or even months, then convert it back to electricity on demand. Unlike batteries, output duration is limited only by fuel supply, not by storage capacity.
This makes hydrogen peakers ideal for the deep decarbonisation challenge—replacing gas peakers while maintaining grid reliability.
